How to Make Money with AI: My Friend Is Actually Doing It and Here's What She Told Me

Okay so this post started with a phone call.

My friend — let's call her S. — called me a few months ago and casually mentioned she'd been making some extra money on the side. Nothing crazy, but enough to notice. And when I asked her how, she said: "AI. I'll send you the guide I started with."

I honestly rolled my eyes a little. We've all seen those "make money online" headlines, right? Usually it's either something that stopped working in 2019, or it requires you to basically become a content creator full time. Neither felt realistic for someone with a normal life and, you know, actual things to do.

But S. is not someone who falls for hype. She's practical, she's busy, she has two kids and a part-time job. So I listened.

What She Actually Told Me

The first thing she said was: "It's not what you think. You're not becoming an influencer. You're not doing dropshipping. You're just using AI to create or do simple things that people are already paying for — and letting the internet do the rest."

She'd been skeptical too, at first. She spent a while just watching other people talk about it before she actually tried anything. And the thing that finally got her to start was finding a free guide that laid it out in plain language — no jargon, no "passive income mindset" fluff, just: here are 5 things you can do, here's how, here's what to expect.

She said the methods in the guide were things she'd never have thought of herself, but once she read them, they made complete sense. Simple digital products. Services for small businesses. Things moms especially are well-positioned to do, because of what they already know and what they're already good at.

She didn't tell me everything that's in it — she basically said "just read it, it's free, it'll take you 20 minutes" — but what stuck with me from our conversation was this:

The barrier isn't skill. It's starting.

S. told me the biggest thing AI changed for her wasn't the money — it was that it removed the part that always stopped her before. The "but I don't know how to write well enough" or "but I don't know what to create" part. AI handles a lot of that. What's left is just deciding to try.

Why I'm Writing About This

I'll be honest — I'm not doing this myself yet. I'm still in the "I find this genuinely interesting and I'm thinking about it" phase, which is probably where a lot of you are too.

But I've been thinking about it a lot since that call. Because the way S. described it, it's not about how to make money with AI in some complicated, technical sense. It's more like: AI has made certain simple income streams way more accessible than they used to be. You don't need to be a writer to create content. You don't need to be a designer to make a product. The tools close the gap.

And in a world where everything feels expensive and everyone could use a little financial breathing room — that feels worth paying attention to.

The Free Guide S. Mentioned

She sent me the link ages ago and I finally sat down and read it. It's called "5 Simple Ways Moms Can Make Money with AI" and it's completely free.

It covers 5 specific methods with actual first steps for each one — not vague advice, but here's what to do on day one kind of specifics. There's also a 7-day starter plan at the end, which I thought was a nice touch. Because honestly the hardest part is always knowing where to begin.

If you're in the same place I was before that phone call — curious but not sure this is actually real or actually doable for a normal person — I think it's worth the 20 minutes.

Here's the free guide S. sent me

And if any of you are already doing something like this, or you've tried it and it didn't work out — I really want to hear about it in the comments. I feel like there's so much noise around this topic and not enough real talk. Let's have the real talk.
